This family tree listing contains the direct descendants of Paul Vachon through Maxim Pomerleau, son of Bartholomew (or Barthelemy in French), grandson of Georges Vachon dit Pomerleau who emigrated to Minnesota from Canada in 1854.

According to the registry data, one of Georges Vachon dit Pomerleau (Georges Pomerleau) brothers is David Vachon who emigrated to Hamel, Minnesota in 1857. Another one of Georges and David's brothers, Augustin, can also to be found in the early census data for Hennepin County, Minnesota. Finding the Vachon surname mixed in with Pomerleau in this time period is not uncommon.

On a historical footnote, between 1871 and 1901 over half the population of Canada emigrated to the United States due to taxes, debts, unemployment, and a failing economic environment at home. This fact seems to explain the relatively large numbers of Vachons and Pomerleaus in Maine and Vermont.

Since our Minnesota ancestors migrated south before 1870, the exact reason(s) for the migration is unknown.
